Moving forward

Posted by Andrew on November 18, 2009

Thanks to everyone for the energy you brought along to Mondays workshop, I hope it opened your eyes to some of the opportunities new technology provides for your businesses. I’m very conscious of the fact that the workshop was just the beginning of a long process and that we need to get some immediate results to keep building the momentum.

I’ll be scheduling meetings with the teams at each of the connected sites next week, to present and discuss the brainstormed ideas and fill in any background information you require. Neil and I will work through some of the ‘inter-site’ possibilities with Rebecca once she’s on board.

I’ll also be working to remove some of the obstacles we still have in our way – ie internet site blocking, slow internal networks and poor connections at our other sites.

There’s a lot of excitement out in the ICT community around what we’re doing (eg fruitbowl), so there are definitely opportunities for public/private partnerships to move things along quickly.

I’ll soon be entering Monday’s ideas on this site and providing links to some of the technologies presented.

Video diaries

Remember the video diaries from last year? We could do something like that permanently on our new network.

Touch screens

Posted by Andrew on November 8, 2009

These guys are from down the road in Palmerston North. Take a look at the amazing things they’re writing to make use of  advances in touch-screen technology.

Just imagine how cool the next generation of information kiosks could be!

Augmented Reality (AR)

Posted by Andrew on November 8, 2009

Imagine this … a tourist leaves their cruise ship and strolls along the Rotary pathway. As he walks along, his phone tells him about all the things around him: Cape Kidnappers and how it got it’s name, the Pania Statue and the story behind it, the Museum and what today’s exhibitions are …
